Berry Bliss!

I made several adjustments and it turned out better than I could have dreamed. I used fresh picked strawberries with raspberries and blueberries, dates, chia seeds and a touch of Earth Balance. SO YUMMY!

Day Zero Project

I recently posted a list of things to do before I turned the big 34 in December. Some things on the list are a little ambitious but figured, why not. I like making lists like these because it keeps me on track. It's a constant reminder of things I want to do whereas I am normally prone on forgetting.

I was reading a friends blog when I saw that he too had a list and I liked his idea even more than mine. With that, I was inspired to re-do my list but with his rules.

The Challenge
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days. My 1001 days ends on June 30, 2013.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching. It doesn’t have to be something you have never done, although most will be, others will just be done again within this time period.

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple challenges such as New Year’s resolutions or a ‘Bucket List’. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips, study semesters, or outdoor activities.

Inspiration

Steve Jobs' 2005 Stanford commencement speech is a must watch. I need to remind myself of these things more often.... especially right now.

On Connecting the dots:

Four months and counting

I held onto my diploma, walked across the stage, shook the hand Dr. Rao and thought my grown up life was about to being (again). I had visions of moving to Philly within weeks of graduation and beginning my new glorious job with Anthro. Wow, was I wrong.

Three months out of school and I have yet to find a job, in fact yet to have a single interview. To be honest, I took a little time post graduation to unwind and then came the weddings in South Carolina and Mexico. So I suppose to be fair, my search has only begun. Every day I send off email after email to the dark depths of cyberspace with hopes of hearing something. Lowes has been gracious to acknowledge my resume and applications... so far its been in the form of rejection emails, but hey, at least its something.

As of February, 9.5% of the job market is unemployed. That is lower than it has been since the bust of the economy a few years back. Maybe its because I have been in graduate school for the past three years, or maybe its because when I was last searching for jobs I was already employed and living in NYC where the market for my interests was prime, but I cannot believe how difficult it has been to get my resume in front of someone.

I know something will happen, I just hope its sooner than later. In the meantime, I'm searching the web, making the networking happen and reaching out cold to people. I will be happy when this gig is over.

**sidenote: getting an MBA is not proving helpful. AT ALL.

In like a lion, out like a lamb

Whenever spring begins opens its doors, I feel happy, optimistic, and panacked. The expectation of sun kissed skies, chirping birds and awakining flower buds is enough to instill a sence of peace and renewal throughout of all of us... or most of us anyway.

Though just the mere thought of picning in Maymont warms my spirit, this time of year also is a time of personal reflection for me. Last night, the reflection turned into a full blown panic. I'm 33 years old and am spending my days in sweat pants, navagating the web universe for jobs, hoping to find my place in this world. If I was 23 there would be no issue. In fact, I'd probably be loving life and signing up for some international volunteering bit. *sigh* IF ONLY.

Truth be told, I'm excited about getting out on my own and starting my career. I just didn't think it was going to be this hard to get my momentum going. The frusterations of that reality coupled with the fact I'm half way into my 33rd year, still living at home, no relationship, no money and no solid leads make it easy for me to spiral into a funk. A funk that has me eating anything my eye can spy.. and then some.

I know this will all pass but I'm feeling a bit overwhemled, frusterated and disappointed in myself. I'll be 35!!! in 1.5 years and am no where close to where I wanted or expected myself to be. As a result, I made a 33 before 34 list to keep me on track. 33 things to do before I reach the age of 34. Yikes. That just sounds so old.

1. Find a meaningful job & begin the foundation to my professional ambitions.
2. Date! Date! Date! Stop waiting for the perfect time and just do it. I don't want to be an old cat lady. What, it happens!
3. Volunteer more in the community.
4. Don't put off things that can be done today. Start my life!
5. Take langugage classes.
6. Write letters to my family & best freinds and let them know how much they are loved.
7. Read a book on buddism and practice my inner calm.
8. Begin weekly yoga classes. Committment can be a good thing.
9. Start therapy. I hear it helps. Even you don't have crazy issues.
10. MOVE OUT OF MY PARENTS HOUSE! They are amazing... its just time to start making my own dinners.
11. Start thinking of my own event business. Obtain website name.
12. Climb to the top of Humpback rock without dying
13. Get rid off all my extra crap
14. Focus on positivity, ignore the negativitiy
15. Incorporate healthy, clean, eating into my everyday life.
16. Volunteer at SPCA each month
17. Never stop believing in myself
18. Try one new thing a month.
19. Doc.ument the new trial on this blog.
20. Keep up with this blog.
21. Cook Thanksgiving for the Brits with Lani
22. Plant a herb garden.
23. Learn how to cook... better & healthier
24. Join Tone It Up diet plan
25. Listen more

27. Open up more, be less scared

30. Don't show underpants at the Avalon Bible Camp this year
31. Read 4 books. (I know that dosent sound like alot, but I have NO attention span)

33. Remind myself that I'm still young and that everything WILL happen when its meant to. Everything WILL be OK!
